Wednesday, 01 February 2017

Goodman Group, an integrated property company that owns, develops and manages logistics facilities, has begun work on its third development at the Can Margarit industrial estate in Sant Esteve Sesrovires, near Barcelona. The first stone was laid at a ceremony chaired by Jordi Baiget i Cantons, Conseller d´Empresa i Coneixement and Mª del Carme Rallo i Casanovas, Mayoress of Sant Esteve Sesrovires accompanied by Josep-Ramon Mut i Bosque, Diputat Delegat d´Urbanisme i Habitatge, Joan Aregio, Secretari d`Empresa i Competitivitat, Francesc Cuxart, CEO of Leventon and Ignacio García Cuenca, Goodman Country Manager for Spain.

This project provides for the development of a 10,000 sqm industrial centre for Leventon, an international company focused on R&D, production and commercialization of disposable medical devices (infusion systems) anda subsidiary of WerfenLife. An additional 7,000 sqm module of logistics space is available for lease. The construction works, which begin this month, are scheduled to be completed by next summer.

This new development would be Goodman´s third development project in the Sant Esteve Sesrovires area, where the company recently opened a 40,000 sqm distribution centre for Decathlon, the largest logistical development in Barcelona in the last six years. By the end of March, Goodman will have completed its second development in Can Margarit II,  a 28,760 sqm logistics facility. By completion of the construction works, Goodman will have developed a total of 85,000 sqm at this industrial estate over the past two years.

During the first stone laying ceremony for the project, Mª del Carme Rallo i Casanovas, Mayoress of Sant Esteve Sesrovires, declared “Can Margarit is set to establish itself as one of the main economic drivers in Catalonia. Its strategic location makes it highly attractive for companies that seek to operate in the Barcelona area, thus contributing to strengthening our industrial activity and boosting job creation on a local level. We are highly satisfied with Goodman´s drive to launch this industrial estate. The local council, in close collaboration with the relevant authorities, will continue working to improve the infrastructure that allows us to maintain the prestige of our municipality in our country”.

“This third development project that we are launching  in Sant Esteve Sesrovires reaffirms our strategic commitment to the region of Barcelona. We are convinced that Can Margarit offers high potential for the logistics industry due to its privileged location between the Mediterranean and Ebro corridors. We are also confident that our experience in major international projects and in-depth knowledge of the local enviroment will contribute to the growth and consolidation of the area,” said Ignacio García Cuenca, Goodman Country Manager for Spain. “Goodman is proud to be able to contribute to Barcelona’s economic development and the expansion of our customer Leventon’s business”.

Privileged location, flexibility and speed: keys to development

Leventon, which has operated out of Sant Esteve Sesrovires for 15 years, needed a new multipurpose industrial property solution that would enable its business to grow . “Goodman’s team of professionals analysed the company’s needs and came up with a solution that would provide more space, modern facilities to drive operational efficiency and flexibility for future expansion”, said Francesc Cuxart, CEO of Leventon. The proposal also included a reduced facility delivery deadline in line with Leventon’s needs.

The new industrial centre, including the 10,000 sqm industrial facility and the 7,000 sqm of available logistics space, will be fitted with LED light and motion-sensor lighting systems, harnessing natural light and recovering rainwater. Goodman aims to achieve the BREEAM GOOD certification on completion of the building work.

The platform, Can Margarit III logistics centre. is located in a privileged position, benefiting from quick access to the AP-7 highway and A-2 motorway,  connecting with Barcelona. The new facilities are set in an ideal location for national and international distribution due to their proximity to Barcelona, just 31 kilometres  from where one-quarter of all foreign trade from Spain is handled.
